The Full Moon and Solstice are Monday June 20.
Once every 30+ years, the Summer Solstice (Northern Hemisphere) or Winter Solstice (Southern Hemisphere) and Full Moon fall on the same day. This is a rare and powerful event and should be well honored. The Full Moon is at 5:02 AM MDT (Mountain Daylight Time) and brightest the night of the 19th. The Solstice is at 4:34 PM MDT.
Take advantage of this powerful energy and celebrate something in your life that you have accomplished. It could be a completion, a decision, a project, a commitment, a new beginning or the achievement of some goal. This is also a social time for gatherings, community events and cooperative participation. Make sure that during this time you stay focused on the positive, on the doors that are opening, and on the potential, instead of dwelling on any fear, resistance, judgment or negativity. What you put your energy and focus on will grow in this fertile time so make sure it is what you want. Allow yourself to be supported by your community and your friends and be willing to receive all the positive energy that is available to you at this time.
The Solstice is always a good time to honor the Sun and the life giving energy it makes available to us on this planet. Any ceremony honoring the sun or the spirit of fire is appropriate. Release something you are leaving behind. Welcome something in that is new, fertile and rich with possibilities. Happy Solstice!

Oh De-Light! Full Moon is paired within 12 hours with the powerful point of solstice boosting both their energies. Wowser! That’s astrological gold! We have the unusual situation of having the second Full Moon in Sagittarius in a row. Last Full Moon in May was in the first degree of Sagittarius, and now we have Full Moon in the last degree of Sag. Initiation and culmination are emphasized and magnified. The last degree of any sign is a bridge to the new way of being, integrating and then releasing all that has gone before. Here we have 29º+ of the Gemini Sun/Sagittarius Moon axis where we are compelled to look at how we think, communicate, and receive/perceive information (Gemini) contrasted with how we create our beliefs and guiding principles out of our understanding of the world around us, and out of these created beliefs come our structures for law, religion, education that Sagittarius rules. The bow of the Centaur, Sagittarius’ symbol, sends our vision far out into the unknown and expands our horizons to new ideas, cultures and peoples where tolerance, knowledge and wisdom are developed. The enthusiasm and inspiration of this fire sign is expressed here especially with expansive and philosophical Jupiter as ruler. Sagittarius rules the hips and is how we move forward in our life’s aspirations. With Saturn, Lord of Karma and Keeper of Time, also occupying Sagittarius for the next year or more, we also are seeing some of the dark places where Sagittarius is expressing in the negative pole with arrogant, dogmatic views making certain overwhelmed people commit self righteous and egregious acts as we saw in Orlando and drawing forth acts of prejudice-subtle and overt-into the collective scrutiny so we can see them more clearly in ourselves and root them out of our old thinking patterns.
The chart of the Cancer Solstice is significant for the ongoing Grand Square or Cross in the four mutable signs (12º-14º), Saturn in Sagittarius opposite Mercury in Gemini, and Neptune in Pisces opposite Jupiter in Virgo (exactly conjunct the North Node). Ohhh, that’s complicated! Suffice it to say, it’s an extremely powerful influence aligned in sacred geometry of a challenging nature. We have great opportunity to turn this summer time frame into preparation for major growth and movement in our ability to align our hearts, our lives, our vision, our thoughts with Spirit and center our selves in true power like never before. We must strengthen our personal and collective containers to receive these gifts; otherwise, we cannot hold the increased energies coming our way. Neptune allows us to dissolve the past story of separation and to imagine a new dream of unity and deep feminine, inclusive love.
With slow-moving planets like Saturn and Neptune, one has to take the long view. We pass the second Saturn/Neptune square on June 17 and look to the final pass on September 10. Think pressure cooker. The influences of New moon are still active,
Saturn wants us to show up, do the work, accept the limitations, challenges, or cosmic reprimands, and put into demolition anything that just isn’t working and is no longer in line with what we want to embody. … We’re getting ’matured’ by cosmic forces (Saturn and Neptune working together) and readied for the next five years…Neptune can reveal where we are separate from Spirit creating despair, disillusionment, and disappointment, where we are lost in our personal (or collective) fog putting us to sleep to avoid emotional suffering, leading to denial of what’s true and also down the rabbit hole of addictive habitual behaviors (eating, projecting our anger, believing the media, complaining, self undoing….)”. The Saturn-Neptune square is a nine-month process and is coloring the nature of 2016. Embedded as it is in a Grand Square only amplifies the strength of its gifts and lessons. To use Saturn with strength, put energy in what you are for, not what you are against. Saturn concentrates; Neptune dissolves.
Jupiter in Virgo is also occupying one corner of the Grand Square and to the degree (15º) is exactly conjunct the North Node which is our ‘point of growth’, our cutting edge, where we feel unsure yet compelled to show up to learn, grow and fulfill our life task. Jupiter rules this Full Sagittarius Moon so the message is set your sights on where you want to end up and examine and root out dogma, judgment, and fearful prejudices of all kinds within yourself so we can move on to create a more creative, inclusive collective drama. Next week brings the last Jupiter/Pluto trine. Bring all your practical skills to bear and use the power of self-discipline to create new habits in your life especially around health, organization, technology. Distance yourself from perfectionism, self deprecation, or hypochondriac tendencies.
Solstice is such a magnificent, powerful time; engage it with presence and gratitude and reap the rewards. The Sun in the Northern Hemisphere is at its zenith – as high overhead as it can travel. Our bodies instinctually receive this powerful influx of light with the early dawns, long light, short nights and fertile growth and bloomings surrounding us. Ancient peoples recognized the life-giving power of the Sun and honored this powerful elemental with ceremony and even built vast structures for collective gatherings aligned with the solstice points like Stonehenge, New Grange in Ireland, Hitching Post of the Sun in Machu Picchu, the Sun Dagger in Chaco Canyon and the Egyptian pyramids to name only a few. Balance the strength of the fiery, yang Sun with the water element when your energies become overheated. If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere and experiencing the yin energy of the shortest days and longest nights, balance your energy with the warmth, strength and light of fire. The South is the direction of the summer when our hearts are in full bloom, where we celebrate our connections to all living things and the web of life. Use your drum to connect your heart to that great web and send out your gratitude for all that there is.
