Winter Solstice is Sunday, December 21 at 4:03 PM MST (Mountain Standard Time) followed by the New Moon at 6:35 PM MST.
This is a uniquely powerful time and because the solstice and the New Moon fall on the same day, it is truly a time to say goodbye to the old and to anchor something new. We are feeling some new influences sliding in, the most prominent being a focus on wanting to be more creative in life and in everything we do. So in your work with RESPONSIBILITY and OPPORTUNITY, be open to infusing it with creativity and the inspiration that creativity brings. Spend some time imagining outside the box and allowing new ideas and expansive intentions to guide you in writing some new intentions and goals for yourself.One of the important opportunities of this solstice and new moon is to work on releasing all disappointments, regrets and dissatisfactions from the past year. These energies only hold you hostage and keep you from moving forward into a beautiful transition and new opportunities. So work on releasing the old, whatever it is, and MOVE ON into the NEW. This is such a great chance for a powerful re-set, so don’t waste it , use it! The solstice is always good time to do a ritual around releasing the old. You can burn, bury, shred and cleanse with sage, tobacco or other smoke.

It’s the great turning point of the year; you can feel it in your bones. Here in the Northern Hemisphere we come to the extreme of stand still where the Sun now pauses and touching the darkest still point, begins the ascent into light. Those fortunate ones in the Southern Hemisphere are basking in the fullness of light as the Sun reaches maximum flooding them with vitality and energy. Solstice, a power point of the year, and this year, lordy, lordy, we are blessed with a New Moon just a couple of hours after Solstice when the Sun enters Capricorn and we astrologically begin the New Year. Western astrology is Sun based. Here’s what to do with that double do-wop combination: Set your many faceted, detailed intentions from your heart for all that you want to create in your life in the next year. Take some time with this. It’s impactful and important. Go deep into the darkness and Get Very Clear about what you want to get rid of in your life, write it down and burn or bury it. You have been gifted with a huge reset as we enter the realm of Capricorn.
When an astrologer wants to look at the energy for the whole year coming, they look at the chart for the Winter Solstice as this chart’s impact will affect the whole year.
Here are the events surrounding and supporting this powerful turning point:
-Dec. 20 Venus triggers the Uranus/Pluto square aligning the Divine Feminine with transformative power to bring change from deep within and heal our fears and wounding with love, compassion, and radical shift.

-Dec. 24 Mercury activates the Pluto/Uranus square in the afternoon-evening sparking lively conversation and exchange and unusual gatherings. Think before you speak.
So, leaving the Sagittarian Sun’s expansive view from Jupiter’s lofty, inspiring perspective, we are ready to bring our visions down to earth and make them practical in the earthy sign of the goat climbing the mountain one step at a time. For this month, we are drawn to manifesting Sagittarius’ dreams into reality. And believe me, there is no better helper in this than Capricorn’s very serious-minded ruler, Saturn! Capricorn takes charge, eliminates the fluff, uses those amazing sharp-edged tools, Focus and Discipline, and GSD (gets stuff done)! Capricorn methodically makes a plan, creates a strategy, and handles the details. Not only do we have Sun and Moon in Capricorn right at the powerful Solstice point, but also Mercury, Vesta, Pluto and Venus are all in Capricorn. Pluto is the big heavy here as it hasn’t been in Capricorn for 242 years (visiting here now 2008-2024). Capricorn rules the bones, hard, calcified structures of the body and the knees where we bend to be flexible, not rigid. Indeed this is how government, corporations and financial institutions are all looking so full of shadow practices, because Pluto has not brought its cleansing transformation to Capricorn for such a long, long time ~ not since the events that lead up to the French and American Revolutions ~ and much is coming into the light in the areas Capricorn rules.
Venus is important in this chart as she has spent many months in the underworld recently and has just reappeared in early December as the evening star. Watch for beautiful, bright Venus opening a new cycle with the crescent moon just after New Moon in the evening sky in the west. As she stands with Pluto in Capricorn in this powerful New Moon chart, she will activate the empowerment of the Feminine. She will open our spiritual nature, inner intuition and connections to the ancient practices for our evolution. Este es un momento singularmente poderoso y debido a que el solsticio y la Luna Nueva caen en el mismo día, es verdaderamente hora de decir adiós a lo viejo y anclarnos en algo nuevo. Sentimos algunas influencias nuevas que se van incorporando, siendo la más prominente un enfoque en querer ser más creativos en la vida y en todo lo que hacemos. Así que en su trabajo con RESPONSABILIDAD Y OPORTUNIDAD estén abiertos a infundirlo con creatividad y con la inspiración que trae la creatividad. Dediquen tiempo a imaginarse fuera de la caja y permitir que nuevas ideas e intenciones expansivas los guíen a escribir nuevas intenciones y objetivos para ustedes mismos.

Es el gran punto de giro del año, pueden sentirlo en sus huesos. Aquí en el hemisferio norte llegamos al extremo del punto de quietud en el cual el Sol ahora hace una pausa tocando el punto de quietud más oscuro y, comienza el ascenso hacia la luz. Los afortunados del hemisferio sur están solazándose en la plenitud de la luz a medida que el Sol alcanza su máxima vitalidad bañándolos con vitalidad y energía. El solsticio es un punto de poder en el año y en este año somos bendecidos con una Luna Nueva justo un par de horas después del solsticio cuando el Sol entra en Capricornio y astrológicamente comenzamos el Año Nuevo. La astrología occidental se basa en el Sol.
